that “I don’t think anyone is better than anyone else” shit goes out the window as soon as the conversation is about crackheads or billionaires.
I need y'all to just admit that you’re fine with living in a merit based capitalist oligarchy but just dont like your place in it currently.
this time next year, Juneteenth celebrations will be fully commercialized with corporate sponsored “community events” and merchandise.
two years and it will be another “Drinko de Mayo” type of booze holiday with a freed-man nigger boy mascot and little broken chain flags.
queue this post and prove me wrong.
@uncleromeo give me some lottery numbers real quick
I wish it worked like that.
I am fucking tired.
I made this post in 2020. I first saw it coming in 2017. there better not ever be one more colored negro in my inbox telling me that we shouldn’t be gatekeeping certain parts of our culture. even regionally and within the diaspora.
I stand by what I said. Juneteenth was never meant for everybody.
IT’S NOT MEANT FOR EVERYBODY. HELL, A LOT OF BLACK PEOPLE EITHER DIDN’T KNOW OR CARE TO CELEBRATE. IN MY AREA , WE CELEBRATED WITH PARADES, TRAIL RIDES, BEAUTY PAGENTS & BLOCK PARTIES. OF COURSE, THERE WAS BLACK PEOPLE HATING BUT IT WAS IGNORED. IT WASN’T A LOOK AT ME THING. IT WAS JUST BLACK FOLKS REMEMBERING WHERE WE CAME FROM. WHO WE CAME FROM. WE WOULD CLEAN THE GRAVES OF THE FORGOTTEN. BAKE CONTESTS. CAR SHOWS, SOFTBALL & KICKBALL AT THE BLACK PEOPLE PARK. FREE SNOW CONES. FISHING CONTEST. DOMINO TOURNAMENT. IT WAS A WEEKEND FOR US. THE COMMUNITY. THIS NEW STUFF IS STRAIGHT TRASH. AND COMPLETELY UNCOMFORTABLE FOR A LOT OF ELDERLY BLACK PEOPLE. YOU CAN’T BE COMPLETELY COMFORTABLE CELEBRATING BEING BLACK AROUND A BUNCH OF OUTSIDERS.

JAGGED
Here’s to people whose panic attacks include anger. Rage. Desperate sorrow.
Who feel like they need to bite
Bite
Bite back until they bleed.
To people who, bravely buckling under the weight of trauma that you never should have had to shoulder,
Through grueling self-reflection and desire to heal, to be better,
Manage to pull themselves through it.
And start to breathe again.
Between your ribs
There is glass.
And pain from the places you are jagged
Yet there you are, inhaling.
